Hello hello my crafty friends!
It’s a new month and that means it’s time for a new kit! Before I became a Master Forger (in December) I would anxiously await the last day of the month to see the mood board for the coming month’s kit. In fact, here is the mood board for June:
Then, when I was given the honor of joining the Master Forgers, they shared the secret password with me so I could join the the Design Team Facebook group and I was able to see the selected kit earlier in the month! This was both good and bad because I have realized that once I create my new kit, I no longer have any desire to work with the old one! What? Is that my hyper-focus brain taking over? At that point, the previous kit is pretty much dead to me (thanks Kevin O’Leary for that one). Sometimes though, it takes me a few days to decide to put the current kit away and start building the new one (I also usually have to clear my desk off completely so I can have space to play!)
This means that instead of getting a full month to work with the kit, I may only get 3 weeks, or if I put it off until the very last minute (which I did in May, not because I was enjoying working with the May kit so much but because May is actually a very busy month) I might be able to get 3.5 weeks with the kit.
June Kit
Our Master Forger Hostess for June is none other than my partner in crafty crime, Tara from The Paper Snob on YouTube and her blog, Tara’s Ramblings. She chose a SUPER fun digital kit called Friendship Collection from Weeds & Wildflowers Supply Company which is so full of bright and fun colors! You can read ALL about the inspiration kit (and the Counterfeit Kit Challenge) over on the CKC blog post with the June Kit Reveal - you might want to right-click or control click to open that in a new tab so you can come back here when you finish!
Here’s a peek at the kit:
Now, given the awesome inspiration she chose, let me walk you through what I chose for my kit this month. (Bare with me since this written format is slightly different than my YouTube videos)
The Papers
Here are the papers from the inspiration kit:
This month I decided I wanted to try something a little different. I had a single sided paper pad sitting on my desk and that just happened to be the Splendid collection from Paige Evans. Honestly I’ve been on a crazy altered book making kick lately and I had pulled the paper pad for a different project BUT I noticed that the colors worked, they were bright and fun, AND she had several geometric or tone on tone papers in this collection! Win, win! So I pulled apart the ENTIRE paper pad (might as well so it doesn’t feel so precious) and went about choosing papers. I only needed to add a few other sheets from my regular stash to round out my paper selection and I even ended up with only 22 papers/designs instead of 24 like in the inspiration kit!
Here are the papers I chose, I tried to layer them in a similar order to the ones in the inspiration so you can see how what I chose matches the original.
Probably the most surprising thing about this kit is that even though there are TWO different designs with STARS, I only pulled one star paper (it’s yellow with white stars from Vicki Boutin, but it’s kind of covered in the image).
The Embellishments
Here are the inspiration embellishments (this is a digital kit so there were LOTS of options here)

I was mostly drawn to the arrows and rainbows, I pulled A LOT of embellishments from my May Hip Kit Club kit (just the embellishments, I couldn’t stand to break up the paper collection from the HKC kit though). I think I ended up grabbing a lot of items based on the color palette more than the actual designs though.
Here are the embellishments I chose:
And I was inspired by this alpha set:
I chose a stamp set that seemed similar, I always try to pull stamps, even if I don’t even use them, I like that it makes me look through my supplies on a regular basis:
(this is a set from Ali Edwards, notice that the S is upside down, it’s just printed that way on the acetate, how weird, right?)
Here are some more beautiful flower embellishments, I was inspired by the watercolor and black and white line art.
I think several of the sticker sets I pulled will work well for this, plus the embellishments from HKC called Chrysanthemum.
You can probably see, I don’t know how to “do small” with my kits. I pull EVERYTHING I think will work! Even if it’s just random stickers about friendship (something I noticed was a recurring theme in this kit) or rainbow word strips (another Ali Edwards gem). I did decide to put some items back but I like to go BIG because then I won’t have to pull as much from my stash and can work mostly from the kit. (Also, I live in Texas, have for most of my life so everything is BIGGER in Texas, right?)(
And as I mentioned, I like to pull stamps so here are the stamp sets and a couple larger sticker and chipboard sheets I pulled for my kit:
The chipboard is Paige Evans Scenic Route, the colors seemed to work plus I love all the hearts. The other sticker sheet is from the Kate and Ash collection from Simple Stories, I pulled this sticker sheet because it has some cute phrases about friendship AND those word strips reminded me of the inspiration kit! I’m really hoping to get a chance to document some stories about my friends using these fun papers and colors this month! (I might have to plan some Zoom scrap days because most of my friends live in other states!)
One last thing, I always pull inks and sprays to coordinate with my kit each month, again this ensures that I’m using my supplies or at least LOOKING at them (with the intention of using them!) Here are the colors I’ve pulled for June:
Twisted Citron
Scattered Straw
Kitsch Flamingo
Mermaid Lagoon
Spiced Marmalade
Most of the inks were Distress Stains and so far I’ve only used them sort of like a watercolor ink. If I had the sprays on hand, I would have preferred to use those instead. I also really like this Hero Arts Hero Hues India Ink Dye Ink pad for stamping. It dries VERY quickly and does not smear when I apply wet media over it (yes I already tested it out!)
Oh and there are a few chipboard hearts and arrows I forgot to include with my other embellishments images. (Can you tell that Mr. Whiskers approves of my kit?)
Thanks for sticking with me through this walkthrough of my kit! The Kit Reveal is usually a more in depth post or longer video.
If you’d like to see videos of my previous kits (where I typically give a more in depth explanation of the Counterfeit Kit Challenge process as well), check out my Counterfeit Kit Challenge Playlist over on YouTube!
Please let me know if you’re planning to create a kit this month or if you like to do monthly challenges like this. I’d love to hear from you!
Until next time keep it crafty,
Anna
